I really love painting horses and I'm looking forward to visiting the Baiting Hollow Horse Rescue Farm on Long Island this year. Seeing all the horses being treated SO well after some of them were abandoned is a definite treat.
By the way, it's also a wonderful Winery which donates part of the sales to the Rescue Farm.
This horse wasn't a rescue horse....I took the reference photo of him somewhere in Montana.

Bringing my arm back to norm is SO difficult but they tell me that I'm doing well so I push myself to the ultimate. Everyday I try to paint a little more... this is what keeps me sane and relaxed..lol
This painting was so much fun because I used my palette knife only for the texture on the corn.
The reference photo was taken in Lancaster, PA at an Amish Farm. They were harvesting corn with horse drawn wagons. They are such hard working people and I have so much respect for them.
Thank you all for your previous comments. I appreciate them.

I haven't been painting for a few weeks because I had an annoying floater in my eye that looked like a spider in front of my vision! First my hand now my eye !!?? It seemed to have gone away and I'm hoping it doesn't come back again... although I understand that it never really goes away!!!

But more important!!! www.wallpart.com is stealing our work off the internet and selling them as posters! This really needs to go viral so we can stop them. I know, because I found my work there when I typed my name.
Some of the Artists in the Pastel Society believe that they want you to order a poster of your work. Once you put the order through, they can get into your computer. Very scary people out there. So sign the petition....I already did!
The link is
and feel free to share the link with other artists.... I will be visiting all of you soon!! I look forward to catching up!!

I will be taking a break from painting, and blogging for a month or so because I have a bad case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which is so incredibly painful and it gets worse when I type or even paint! It's very upsetting because we don't realize how much we use our hands until the moment we "can't". Wearing a brace helps a little bit...any input is appreciated. I'm typing with my left hand right now..(not easy) Thank you so much for your comments.
I'll be back soon.

I don't know how you all paint with oils! lol...I had so many problems mixing colors. I decided to paint a self-portrait of one of my favorite Artist - Rembrandt. As you know, he painted so many self-portraits and since I love his style I used this as a study for my next oil portrait. The title is "Self portrait with a Gorget". I was curious to know what a Gorget was....it's the Armor that protects the throat and shoulders. I learn something every day!

Unfortunately I don't remember exactly where but I do remember how beautiful it was.. The perfect place to be when you wanted to sit and enjoy God's Country.. listening to the sounds of the birds and waterfalls. I loved seeing the moss all over the rocks. Wonderful colors everywhere you look. Right now I'm working on a portrait but I thought I would post this painting. Since I wanted to achieve texture on the rocks, I painted this on sanded paper. I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday.

When I see this painting, I immediately think back when they were babies taking those first steps toward me...stumbling at first, but I was always there with open arms ready to catch them!!
Also, I wanted to share Colette Theriault's blog with all of you who are not familiar with her. She does mostly pastel portraits of pets that are so incredible and she's having a "pet portrait giveaway" that you don't want to miss out on.
Her link is http://petportraitsbycolette.blogspot.ca/2014/09/custom-pet-portrait-giveaway.html
You will love her work...

After I finished it, I really liked it because basically it's an outline with very little detail. I would like to paint a similar piece with my granddaughter playing her viola. I enjoyed painting this in oil because it doesn't have to be protected under glass like my pastels.

However, when I finished this pastel portrait I realized how much it doesn't look like her ! But since I like the portrait, I will show you before I throw it out. I usually know what I did wrong.. this time I can't figure it out!! I guess I'm a little frustrated. Maybe I'll pull it apart and fix it OR start over...hmmmm

beautiful Arizona. We decided to hike but it was pretty hot that day. We were enjoying all the pretty wildflowers....I believe it was 104 degrees.
(but it was a dry heat !!!! NOT....lol !)
We might have gone in about 1/2 mile or so when we decided to turn back...much too hot. When we arrived back to the start of the hike there was police cars and a news truck... why?
Someone had spotted a mountain lion and they were going to tell everyone to come back.. My hair stood up and needless to say we went back to the car....jogging this time !!!!
